Building a Marketing Career While Raising a Toddler: How Seminars and Networking Shaped My Journey

As a mom, student, and aspiring marketer, life often feels like a balancing act between baby bottles and business goals. I enrolled in a Marketing Seminar series that promised career insights this semester. What I didn’t expect was how deeply it would shape my mindset and my next steps in the industry.
Between late-night readings and toddler cuddles, I logged into these seminar sessions with hope and curiosity. I walked away with far more than notes—I gained direction, confidence, and a growing network of inspiring people helping me shape my future.
From Inspiration to Clarity: What I Learned
A speaker like Qashif Effendi, who introduced the PESO model to someone like me with no previous business studies background, made a considerable change. As someone juggling multiple roles, I found the PESO model (Paid, Earned, Shared, Owned) very relevant. He demonstrated each channel’s role in the customer journey and explained how digital strategy must align with that journey. For me, this wasn’t just marketing theory—it was a reminder that intention matters in everything we create.
Then came Daniela Furtado, an expert in SEO and personal branding. Her words were powerful. She spoke about Google’s Knowledge Panel and the importance of E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness). As a mom blogger, this resonated deeply. I realized I already have “experience” and “trust” through the content I share—stories about my life, faith, and child. Daniela helped me see that I can turn that lived experience into credibility.
And then there was Chelsea Robinson, who reminded us that community is more powerful than content. Her session emphasized the importance of authenticity on social media. She said, “Don’t just post—connect.” That simple message helped me change how I look at my blog and Instagram. I started sharing not just tips but honest moments. I prayed during nap time. I researched while stirring a pot of soup. I attended Zoom calls with my toddler on my lap. And surprisingly, those were the moments that got the most love.
During his speech, John Paulo Cardoso, a creative Thinker, strategist, and bestselling author, reminded us that the roots of excellent marketing are anchored in clarity, emotional resonance, and usability—A great insight for me for the rest of my life.
A truly special moment came after I wrote a LinkedIn post reflecting on the seminars. To my surprise, Jacquline Hissey—one of our passionate speakers—reposted it! That small gesture felt like a huge win. It validated my voice as a student and a content creator. It also expanded my reach. Additionally, it helped me connect with others in the industry. It was a reminder that showing up authentically can open real doors.
Networking as a Mom: Yes, It’s Possible

I used to think “networking” meant attending evening mixers and handing out business cards—definitely not toddler-friendly. This semester taught me that networking can be simple. It is as easy as sending a message. It can also involve joining a LinkedIn group or commenting thoughtfully on someone’s post.
I connected with the seminar speakers on LinkedIn. I even had a short back-and-forth with a few of them. Hissey’s repost was another unexpected but meaningful highlight. I joined a few marketing-focused groups where I can learn about tools, trends, and job opportunities, all during nap time.
I had one of the most enriching experiences through LinkedIn. I connected with Seemen Patel, a marketing professional. His career path inspired me. We had a wonderful conversation during a job interview. Although that particular role didn’t end up being my final choice, the interview itself was incredibly insightful. It helped me grow more confident in how I show myself and reinforced that I belong in this industry.
Co-op Secured: A Real Win for This Mom
And here’s the big news—I’ve officially landed my co-op!
Interestingly, I didn’t find it through LinkedIn. And the path was not easy. One notable experience was getting selected as marketing intern at Freshfind, but unfortunately, I could not make it to the last because some terms and conditions did not align with my school. However, during this process, I met highly cooperative HR Deninz, whom I later connected on LinkedIn. This is what we call a happy connection! At last, I discovered the opportunity through the GBC job platform and went through a traditional application process. But here’s the truth: everything I learned this semester—from branding myself to confidently networking—helped me land that role.
This moment isn’t just a career milestone. It’s proof that it’s possible to build something meaningful. You can achieve this even with a toddler on your hip and dreams in your heart.
Tips for My Fellow Mompreneurs
If you’re a mama dreaming of a marketing career—or any career—here’s what I want to share from this journey:
Start small. Share your voice. Make it sustainable. Show up as you are!
Marketing is not just a job—it’s a journey. And as moms, we’re already master multitaskers, storytellers, and problem-solvers. This semester reminded me that I already have the raw skills. With a growing network, a secured co-op, and more precise goals, I’m building something that blends my passions and purpose.
Reflecting on the lessons learned throughout the Marketing Seminar series, I realize that networking and continuous learning are integral to navigating the ever-evolving marketing landscape. The insights shared by my peers and instructors and the practical application of these concepts have solidified my understanding and prepared me for the challenges ahead.
From the invaluable networking connections made to the personal growth I’ve experienced, this journey has been transformative. However, as I continue to build my career and personal brand, I can’t help but wonder:
How can I further leverage my network and the knowledge gained to make a meaningful impact in the marketing industry while staying true to my values and goals?
